Vision boarding has quickly become my absolute favourite thing. It’s relaxing, exciting, and so much fun to visualise the future life you want and I recommend it to all my clients to get really clear in a safe way about what they truly desire.
So, what is it?
A vision board is a tool which refers to a board of any sort used to build a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams.
How does it work?
Visualization is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do. According to the popular book The Secret, "The law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualizing, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe."
Whether you believe that or not, we know that visualization works. Olympic athletes have been using it for decades to improve performance, and psychologists have reported that the brain patterns activated when a weightlifter lifts heavy weights are also similarly activated when the lifter just imagined (visualized) lifting weights.
For me, it also works similarly to journaling. When you take things out of your head and onto paper, they become real things that aren’t just imaginary – which makes them harder to ignore. If you continue to have the same thought pattern or reaction to something, writing it down can help you step back from it, look at it more objectively, and work on it more efficiently compared to being up in the clouds of your thoughts. Same with dreams, putting them down on paper visually ACHNOWLEDGES that they are real and what you truly want.
How to create one
You can use a Pinterest board (a personal favourite alternative to scrolling aimlessly down a twitter feed – build out your dreams visually) or you can have one physically by using a cork board or alternative board or space that you can easily stick images too.
Then start searching through websites, blogs, Pinterest (if using), magazines, and add images and words that represent and visualise your dreams and desires onto the board!
The most important element of the board is where you keep it - it should be somewhere you can see it every day, so that you can prompt yourself to visualize your ideal life on a regular basis. It’s important to do this because visualization activates the creative powers of your subconscious mind and programs your brain to notice available resources that were always there but escaped your notice. Through the Law of Attraction, by having it in your conscious awareness you’ll be naturally attracted to you the people, resources, and opportunities you need to achieve your goals and dreams.
